News from MMT in 2020
This research led her, this time, to take an interest in potato cultivation because of its high nutritional and market value.
With the financial support of the French NGO Noë, MMT proceeded to cultivate potatoes in its pilot farm in Nkala. The success of this crop, once considered the prerogative of the eastern regions of the DRC and the province of Kongo Central, is a source of satisfaction for MMT, which plans to develop and popularize this new crop throughout the Bolobo territory and make it available to farmers. MMT not only wants to help them diversify their diet but also to help them acquire an additional source of income. To take up this challenge, MMT is called upon to find the necessary funding that will enable it to support the communities.
It should be pointed out that MMT is not new to this kind of community accompaniment. The organization had also introduced beekeeping, which was previously unknown to the Téké people, into the community. Thus, in addition to cassava, the main crop, and its products generally deficient in protein, this pilot project allows MMT to accompany the Teke people in the development of environmentally friendly initiatives to reconcile the common objectives of three Rio conventions and implement the "One Health" approach.
